Getting to the Retreat
Getting to the Venue
The CPMT Meeting site and Lama Zopa Australia Retreat site (the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion) is located at 25 Sandhurst Town Road in Myers Flat, about 15 minutes northwest of Bendigo CBD (downtown), just off the corner of Allies Road.
The Tullamarine Airport in Melbourne is the most accessible national/international airport to Bendigo. While there are charter planes available, there are no scheduled flights to/from Bendigo.
Arrive at Melbourne Tullamarine Airport.
There are money exchange kiosks as well as ATMs/cashpoint machines in the airport for getting Australian dollars.
Just outside the airport luggage collection area, you can book a Skybus into Melbourne, with an arrival at Southern Cross Railway Station (20 minute ride). Upon arrival at Southern Cross Rail Station, please see below about Trains to Bendigo.
Alternatively, the Bendigo Airport shuttle runs return services each day from Melbourne Tullamarine Airport to Bendigo Railway station. For timetables, fares and bookings, see www.bendigoairportservice.com.au or phone +61 (0)3 5439 4044.
The trip to the Bendigo Railway Station takes about 2 hours. This is probably the easiest choice if you arrive and are able to catch one of the scheduled shuttle buses that depart between 7 am and 8 pm.
If you arrive later, you can either stay at the airport - the Parkroyal Melbourne Hotel is right at the airport and is very convenient, either for the Bendigo Airport Service or for the Skybus into Melbourne – or you can travel into Melbourne via the Skybus. There are several hotels near Southern Cross Station – you can search for these via Trip Advisor or one of the other internet hotel booking agencies.
By train from Melbourne:
If you decide to stay overnight in Melbourne, the best way to get to Bendigo and the venue is by V/Line train. Please note that all passengers are required to have a valid myki (V/Line commuter train lines) or a V/Line paper ticket (coaches and long distance trains). At Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station, find the V/Line booking office or myki kiosk and purchase a V/Line ticket to Bendigo. Follow the various signs to catch a train travelling to Bendigo (90-120 minutes train ride). For timetables and booking, see www.vline.com.au or phone (+61) 136 196. This schedule can change, so please check again closer to the time of your travel.
By train from Adelaide:
The V/Line Daylink service between Adelaide and Melbourne stops in Bendigo daily.
Please let us know if you will be arriving by train and what time you expect to arrive. We will try to arrange a pick up. Email us at email@example.com
If we are unable to pick you up, taxis from the Bendigo Train Station to the retreat site will take about 15 minutes and will cost about $27. The telephone number for Bendigo Taxis is 13 1008.
The centre can be approached from Bendigo via the Calder Highway (A79 to Mildura) or the Loddon Valley Highway (B260 to Kerang and Swan Hill).
- Travelling from Bendigo on the Calder Highway to Mildura, turn right onto Allies Road at Marong then about 5 kms down the road, turn left onto Sandhurst Town Road. There is a signpost for Atisha Centre and the Great Stupa at the corner.
- Travelling from Bendigo on the Loddon Valley Highway to Kerang, turn left onto Allies Road at the Allies Hotel, then turn right into Sandhurst Road.
Travelling from Melbourne, follow the Calder Highway (A79) towards Bendigo. Near Ravenswood, take the Calder Alternative (A790) to the left and follow along this road to Marong (20-25 minutes from the turnoff). At the intersection at Marong, turn right for about 700 metres and then left onto Allies Road. Approximately 5 kms, turn left onto Sandhurst Town Road. There is a signpost for Atisha Centre and the Great Stupa at the corner.
From either direction:
Once you are on Sandhurst Town Road, turn left into the first driveway, through the gate and follow the signs to Atisha Office, which is where the Retreat Office reception and parking area are located.
